Swordswoman

Swordswoman character design. I really like the way this one turned out, I feel like I overcame some hurdles in the painting process and made some strides forward. Enjoy!

Color Sketches

Some recent fast color sketches. I am going to try and get one of these in daily for a while. Just concentrating on the idea rather than a careful rendering. Some of them may end up being turned into real paintings in the near future.

Necromancer's Heart

Part oil and Part digital sketches I did to get some oil practice in. Not my favorite finish in the world but I got a lot of good practice in with my working process.

Beauty and the Beast

Color version of my Beauty and the Beast painting from the latest TLC workshop. Got to work with many fantastic Illustrators and be instructed by the wonderful Justin Gerard, Cory Godbey and Ian McCaig. Learned a lot and had a blast.

I completed these as a commission for Innovative Health Solutions over in downtown Plymouth. They are currently hanging in their offices, and my client was very satisfied. Always a good day.

Non Differential

A painting of my brother's hair. It really looks like this, or at least darn close. Also this may be a result of too much espresso.

Pinup

Did this pinup for a client recently, waiting to hear back on details. Been wanting to do one of these for some time, fun and easy and a good excuse to bust out old 50s pinup books for reference. Sorry for the long delay in posting, I have been busy with a handful of commissions, so I have had less time for my own work, more to come soon.

Leng wasteland

After watching a very nice video from the Feng Zhu school of design I was inspired to try their chaos painting method. So I started by just doodling a bunch of random colors and shapes and waited for the image to take form. Been a while since I did any landscape speed paintings so I was satisfied with how this one came out. Approx 2 and a half hours.

The video I was using the methods from is found here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDPcSuLe73g

Deep in thought

First illustrative portrait I've done in a while. Rather like the way this one turned out, I even did color studies and everything. Anyway, I hope this one is worth the long absence. I will be posting another painting next week though I cannot say what day. Good to be back among the land of the artistically living!

Website is now live!

So after a leave of absence from posting here I am back and will be posing far more frequently. Much of my time recently has gone into finishing up my real honest to goodness website.

Link to it here:
www.charlesmckinnonart.com

I will be posing up new work on both the website and here on the blog. In addition here is a map as part of the concept art for a creative project I have been working on with friends. Next up on the agenda will be character and environmental designs for this world.

Next update will be on Wednesday the 23rd.

Mr. Dauber

Another Halloween Pic for the haunted house, these are fast and addictive. I must do speedpainting more often as the result often has more energy and life with a 1 hour painting then with a 30 hour one.

Halloween Speed Paintings

Helping a friend out with her haunted house, so I was designing some paintings to hang on the walls. All of these are low detail and high contrast to be seen in a black light + fog environment. Hopefully soon I can see how they will look in when in a suitability creepy room.

Candlewoman

This is a character I am using as part of my website design. A design which is almost complete. Soon I will be all connected up via a shiny new website to facebook, blogger, DA and maybe even tumblr. For now however here is a candle, look fast though, she is not long for this world.
